Amazon released Kindle Oasis, the latest addition to the existing Kindle lineup. Weighting just at 131g, the Oasis is the thinnest and lightest kindle released to the date. The device has both touch screen display and physical button for those of you who miss the ‘page turn buttons’ from the old kindle. The tapered design which includes the ergonomic handgrip lets the users read for hours comfortably.

In comparison, the only difference is the redesigned build-in LED backlight which improves the reading in all type of lighting. The Oasis comes with a leather charging cover which holds the charge like a power bank and charges the device on the go. This combined with the hibernation mode which reduces the power consumption when the kindle is inactive offers months of battery life.

Now the technical specifications, the device has a 4GB internal storage which holds thousands of books. There is also a free cloud storage for all Amazon content. A single charge lasts upto 8 weeks* and you can fully charge your device within 3 hours. It supports file types like; Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP through conversion.

*Estimated battery life based on half an hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at 10.

Truth to be told the amazon promo mail, like a feverish wave, excited me. Funs apart, I was once a proud owner of Kindle, the normal one, until I forgot it in the airline seat pocket. To be honest I had put up a fair amount of fight into it but, finally I had to let it go. The new Kindle Oasis is, unlike any other kindle you have ever hold that’s what the Amazon says. You can’t be sure unless you get to hold one of them. The leather charging cover, which sticks to the kindle using magnet, is detachable. Of course for the best level of comfort I recommend to use the device without the cover. The leather cover comes in three colors red, brown and black. You can make a choice which suits your outfit.

The new Kindle Oasis comes in two variant, the WiFi only version which has a price in india of Rs 23,999 and WiFi + 3G comes with a price tag of Rs 27,999. The device is supposed to be an upgrade for the Kindle Paper white and Kindle Voyage users however, I don’t see the point in such an extravagant spending just for a better design. The leather charging cover, kind of accessory, can easily substituted with your existing powerbank. Well, this is definitely an upgrade for those who, like me, who still use/used to have the very basic kindle. Happy Reading.
